The background is embossed with a snowflake pattern from Dovecraft and edged with Evergreen Bough distress ink. I covered the join in the embossing with some paper from Papermania's Victorian Christmas set. The white rick rack ribbon is also from Papermania - Bellissima Christmas.

The trees were stamped onto the same paper using Evergreen Bough and the shape cut out from the same Sizzix Framelits set. The sentiment is from the same stamp/die set.

The snowflakes are from the Spellbinders 2012 Snowflake pendant set and are covered with shaved ice. Assorted pearls and sequins were used for embellishments.Helenehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14702806152862572485noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1389754810139490094.post-72671446989965048142015-11-20T15:38:00.000+00:002015-11-20T15:38:00.705+00:00First christmas make of the year

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I used a stencil from the latest edition of Crafts Beautiful for the background using Tea Dye distress ink. I then "frantaged" the background. The snowflakes are from Spellbinders 2012 Snowflake pendant set using craft card and gold mirror card. The centre of the larger snowflake is shaded with more Tea Dye ink. The sentiment is from Tim Holtz Sizzix Holiday words script. Stickle glue was used to highlight the edges of the large snowflake, the word Christmas and in the centre of the gold snowflake.Helenehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14702806152862572485noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1389754810139490094.post-36952082390733005742015-11-19T14:08:00.000+00:002015-11-19T14:08:00.914+00:00Christmas past

This is a card I made for Mum using papers from an Inspiration magazine from Debbie Moore. The edges are from a Martha Stewart punch. The letters are die cuts but I don't know who makes the die, possibly Docrafts? (oops). The With Love stamp is from the Crafters Companion Clearly hand stamped collection. The tag is from Spellbinders and the banners were stamps from Stamp Addicts. Baker's twine and stickles added for embellishments.Helenehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14702806152862572485noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1389754810139490094.post-21703992905477478752015-11-17T12:54:00.000+00:002015-11-17T12:54:00.100+00:00Happy Birthday 2

A slightly more complex but still simple card. On black card, I used a bubble template and used Cosmic Shimmer embossing paste - Icicle Blue sparkles and left to dry. I hate waiting but it has to be done. I cut out the twisted metal tag from Spellbinders in white and black using the white outline and the black insert. On the black insert I stamped the sentiment from Clarity stamps in silver and used a silver pen to add stitching. Black and white layering.Helenehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14702806152862572485noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1389754810139490094.post-6168124462735591682015-11-16T12:50:00.001+00:002015-11-16T12:50:37.371+00:00Happy Birthday

A simple card for my husband's birthday. I stamped distress ink pads - walnut stain, antique linen, tea dye and pumice stone - direct to a piece of white card and then covered with sparkling embossing powder. I left a space for the Happy Birthday stamp from Clarity and the die cut Dad from Britannia. Then I added three Spellbinder die d-lites "cattails" - two in black and one in white - swiped with the walnut stain to the front. I mounted this on black card before completing.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I bought the stamps used in the card a few weeks ago, just because they are so pretty. Of course, I put them to one side as I tried to come up with a plan to use them so I sat down this morning and decided to put stamp to ink. The Allsorts challenge seemed the perfect opportunity.

Elements used:

Artemio stamp set (sorry no name on the pack). The main stamp and the butterfly were used and stamped on white card using Encore Gold ink and then embossed with clear embossing powder.

Tumbled glass distress ink was used to edge and colour the stamped images.

Background was created using the That Special Touch eyelet mask and tumbled glass DI. I also edged the background with faded jeans DI to add dimension.

The flowers are prima flowers coloured with tumbled glass DI and a candi centre.

The flourishes are from Marianne creatables elegant elements.

The sentiment is, I think, from Red Hot Bed which I have had for ages.

Some white ribbon, lace and clear dew drops to finish.

The picture looks so dimensional but apart from the embossing is flat. Its the quality of the stamp more than my colouring efforts that achieves the effect. Having done this though, next time I plan to try a decoupage version of the image.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Elements used:

Sheena - Bah Humbug 1 stamp for the scene plus the star and the sentiment.

Big and Juicy Mountain Meadow ink pad, sponged on to create the sky above the masked stamp.

Scene stamp coloured in with spectrum noir pens.

Then embossed with WOW white puff embossing powder to create the snow in the sky and on the buildings.

Stickles also added for sparkle but it doesn't show up on the photo.

The scene is matted onto some white card and some blue shiny paper, as is the sentiment. I also used a gold marker pen around the edges.

Sue Wilson 3D lattice bow from the same blue paper.

Britannia Xmas flight die cut from black paper and highlighted with white pen.

Clear gems and blue ribbon to finish.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">One layer card

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">This card started off as a mistake<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">. I was meant to be cutting some flowers for another card but forgot to add the border die! Then I saw the Less is More challenge and decided to see if I could turn it into a card.

The flower shape is from the Spellbinder d-lites Medallion nine. Having "mis cut" the first one, I added another one below. I snipped the edges off the flowers to add an interesting "edge" and then cut the card down to size.

Using three distress inks (shabby shutters, tumbled glass and mustard yellow), I randomly inked up the Creative Expressions newsprint stamp and stamped over the cut flowers and also in a border on the inside of the card. It would probably be easier to do the stamping before cutting in future!

I added extra colour to the central flower shapes to make them stand out more.

The "with love" border and butterfly stamp is from a Papermania set that came with the Creativity magazine this month.

I added some extra dimension with faux stitching using a micron pen.

Some extra views because this card was also really difficult to photograph:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">There is something about June that always makes me think of Christmas. Perhaps because we are halfway there or is it because, as much as I enjoy the sunshine, I love cold winter mornings. Anyway, I always have good intentions to start preparing for Christmas early and never quite get there so this year I am going to try harder...

The card has a lot of different elements as follows:

Background paper is from Dovecraft Back to Basic Christmas 6x6 pad.

The presents and robin are stamps from a free magazine set and coloured with Spectrum Noir pens.

I used the spellbinders classic scallops to die cut the stamp and antique linen distress inks to colour the edges.

The scalloped circle is matted onto a circle of green coredinations card which I also used for the other die cuts.

The white strip is punched using a Martha Steward border punch.

The sentiment is from the Britannia word die set

The Christmas tree is the Spellbinders Mini Christmas tree die with stickles to create the "baubles".

I am entering this in the ABC Christmas challenge "L is for Little Gifts".Helenehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14702806152862572485noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1389754810139490094.post-70978733760088635512014-05-26T16:34:00.002+01:002014-05-26T16:34:17.614+01:00Flowers and flourishes

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Paper Engineering

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I took inspiration for this card from HOTP "Susan's Journal of Paper Engineering".
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">The card is a simple window card. Using an A4 piece of card and folded in half to make a card (using the Crafter's Companion Ultimate), I mat and layered some gold and some criss cross paper on the front from an old Crafter's Companion paper set.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Using the largest of the Spellbinders Classic Oval set, I cut the aperture from the centre of the card (through all three layers).
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I placed some beige coloured vellum behind the aperture but it looks white in the picture
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I took some rose design paper from the Papermania Nostalgia Warm 12x12 pad and centred the spellbinders die so that some of the roses overhung the oval shape and drew round the inside of the die with a pencil. Cut along the pencil line and around the roses. I also cut out some extra roses to decoupage onto the image.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I cut the paper with the rose aperture down to size, edged it with some pumice stone distress ink and placed over the aperture in the card. I also added some faux stitching with a white pen around the outside.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">At this point I should probably have added the stickles around the aperture, but I left that till the end which made it slightly trickier!
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">The flourishes are cut from the same vellum using the Spellbinders d-lites sprig die.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">The bow and lattice ribbon are cut from the same rose paper using Sue Wilson's 3D Lattice Bow dies.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">The sentiment is one from a sheet of sentiments but I don't know where it came from. I have lots of them!
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I am entering this in the following challenges:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">The card was made using papers from the Gorjuss 6x6 paper selection.

The paper folding (central octagonal shape) is a fancy folded frame from HOTP "Susan's Journal of Paper Engineering", using a sheet of 6x6 paper that had a graduated colour scheme, it looks like more than one piece of paper is involved. I added a central square of blue paper to cover the white background.

On the central square, I added a waterfall folded paper in brown and turned it into a flower box.

The octagonal fold shape is then matted onto blue and silver square mats.

The flowers are from the d-lites dies - basil, sage and lavender.

The tag is from the same Gorjuss papers and a stamp from a freebie magazine set from ages ago.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Then I noticed that one of the DT had already done this (Nat's card is fabulous!) so I decided to try again.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I made a pop up card using the Crafters Companion ultimate pro. It took a few attempts to get the scoring right but I got there in the end.

I used the folded card to create a template for the layers trimming off a small amount each time to create the layers. The papers are from the Gorjuss 6x6 pad.

The lacy effect was done using vellum and a Martha Stewart punch and stuck behind the main fold.

The Gorjuss image was stamped and then coloured in using spectrum noir pens.

To finish - a bit of ribbon, some flowers made from the Spellbinders bitty blossoms set (smallest one), some hearts cut from the Gorjuss papers, a label from the same papers and stamped with a sentiment from the Clearly Handstamped set and stickles for a bit of glitter.
The Daring Cardmakers challenge reminded me of some papers I had left from a Craftwork cards kit (sorry can't remember which).

I stamped the Gorjuss image and coloured it with complementary colours from my spectrum noir pens. I cut the image to a rectangle and edged with spiced marmalade distress inks.

The image was mattered onto some of the paper using the Perfect Layers rulers and then onto white card.

The flower was cut from the same paper set using the Spellbinders flower creations die. The flourishes are the Spellbinders d-lites fantastic flourish four die. The sentiment is also from the die d-lites range and is called sentiments one.

The butterfly is a die from Tattered Lace and was cut from white card. I coloured it using three distress inks - spiced marmalade, tumbled glass and shabby shutters.

The background is a piece of vellum cut using the Die'Sire Square Doilies die (the smaller one) and coloured with the same distress inks.

The sentiment is die cut from white card and again coloured with same distress inks. The die is from Spellbinders d-lites sentiment one set.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Like all lovers of dies, I have struggled to find a way to store them. The ready made storage solutions always seem so expensive and uninspiring. As a stop gap, I started to store them in an old index card case. I then hit upon the idea of making little pockets on index cards to slip the dies (stuck on magnetic sheets) into.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Of course the index card cases are not very attractive and so I decided to decorate it:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">The first...

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Inside

I have to admit that the above decoration was the second attempt as the original paper pieces didn't stick so well. Collall glue did the trick the second time around.

The decoration is made from randomly cut and stuck pieces of paper (edged with a spectrum noir pen). The border, embellishments, bow and butterflies were all die cuts and I added a few gems as well.

I didn't decorate the tops as I may need to stack them.

As time went by and the stash of dies increased, it was necessary to add another (two) card cases. I could then sort the dies into different types.
